ESL, SPANISH, ENGLISH, GENERAL STUDIES, TESTING: 6 years exp

I am a very personable, relationship-built sort of tutor. I am no-nonsense when need be, but I try to focus on building nurturing relationships with my students, especially with children. I also work to build the confidence of students that score poorly on grades in school and love a challenge!
Hello! My name is Rachel and I have over 6 years of experience tutoring. I started teaching students ESL when they came from Korea and quickly began teaching all ages from 3-83 in all subjects from elementary studies to ESL and even Spanish. I now call myself "Cheshire Language Consulting" and I make myself available to help all sorts of students understand the complexities of language, how to be confident in school, how to speak another language for work, or even just how to "learn to learn". Tutoring is my passion and I'd love to tutor you!

My comments on tutoring Journalism : I have written articles for newspapers and magazines which have been received very well. Writing journalistically is different from writing other kinds of material, and the student must know the difference. I teach that.

I am gentle, yet demanding. I am soft, but strict. I use humor to keep my students interested and in focus. I teach, but I also listen and watch for signals from my students in order to know if they understand or need more explanation. I develop a bond with my students regardless of the students'age which allows us, as a "team" to move together toward success. I believe that every student can learn -- some just learn faster than others, or easier than others, and it is my job, my privilege to help them learn how to do their very best.
I have been teaching many years, and I make sure I keep very much up to date with the teaching styles and ideas in use today, I have bona fide references available from students and their parents, (past and present) to show prospective students. I have worked with students for whom English is a second (or third or fourth) language). I have work ... read more

I love teaching and seeing students learn. I love the seeing the feeling a student has when they finally get a grasp on the subject that has been giving them some trouble. I am a visual learner so I am a big believer in graphics, charts, videos, etc to help students understand. I am very easy going, kind, and considerate and like to get to know my students. I feel getting to know them is the best way to help them learn as not everyone can learn the same way. I think it is very important to create an atmosphere that will allow students to flourish and perform to their greatest potential.
