I earned three degrees in five years, all in quantitative disciplines. The range of material covered by those degrees includes mathematics and statistics, economics, and some computer programming. Beyond my education background, I have five years of experience tutoring. In high school, I tutored children in reading and writing and other high school students in mathematics and Latin. In college, I have one additional year of experience tutoring introductory calculus. I believe the key to learning is to break complex concepts down into manageable sizes. The goal of tutoring is to relate new or difficult material to simple ideas that are already familiar to the student. I have a variety of experience. Most of my tutoring experience is with older students, aged 15 or older. However, I feel that I could work with younger kids as well. I believe that each child learn differently, and as such, I have found the best way to teach is to cater to each child's individual learning style. In working one-on-one with students, I feel as though it is crucial to build a trusting relationship in which the child feels comfortable stating whether or not the teaching style I am using is working for them. Being only 22 years old, I feel as though I have an advantage, as I am close enough in age to the students that they are able to almost see me as a peer, but I'm also old enough for them to respect me as an adult.
