I graduated from Davidson College with a major in economics, which has enabled me to gain an understanding of both math and social science. I tutored during my junior and senior years in North Carolina and I've also done private tutoring in Gainesville. In addition, I coached 4-12 year olds how to swim. If I can teach 4 year olds who are screaming and kicking how to swim I can teach someone math or ecnomoics.
I really enjoy teaching all ages. From my background in coaching young children how to swim I've become well adjusted to dealing with difficult situatioins in a learning environment. The easiest way I can explain my teaching style is to begin with the fact that I have worked for Disney for the past 6 years. I always have a smile on my face, and I believe that encouragement is the basis for all true learning. Students need someone to encourage them more than feed them facts. By guiding students through new concepts and learning with them instead of for them, each student is building his or her own learning tools that are more likely to last than the tools their tutor may provide for one homework assignment and never use again.
