A Little Bit About Me...

As a graduate student in Sociology at Wichita State University, I was able to explore my passion for human behavior with great detail and rigor. During this time, I was able to use SPSS extensively for statistics and data analysis for Crosstabs, Frequencies, T-tests, ANOVA, Correlations, Descriptives, Linear Regression, Logistic Regression, OLS Regression, and Weights. I also served as a graduate teaching and research assistant, which allowed me to tutor students on how to use SPSS while also applying SPSS for research projects and program evaluation.

I prefer to teach in a classroom environment with a structure and learning standards. I can also teach in a one on one tutoring session. It is helpful to have good teaching materials and resources available. I like to have the opportunity to prepare lessons and have the ability to write lesson plans and prepare lessons. I have a proven ability to follow through with those lesson plans. I prefer to have the appropriate support for the teaching environment and at times I have been known to refuse to teach unless I have been given the opportunity to prepare for the teaching event in advance. My style of teaching mathematics, science and Japanese is PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE. It is only through solving problems (for mathematics and science) and practice (for Japanese) that this knowledge becomes ingrained in a student so that they are confident to move forward.
I began tutoring high school and college students in 1986. I have 6 children of my own who I have raised and taught science and mathematics. I worked 2 years as an adjunct professor at the University of Florida and was a volunteer instructor at Brigham Young University. I speak Japanese fluently and am semi fluent in German.

I have been fortunate to teach students with Special Needs and Learning Challenges. In addition, I was able to teach Adult Basic education to inmates at a state prison. Due to the diversity of educational needs, I have been able to teach Math, Social Studies, History, Marine Biology, Horticulture, Biology, English, and Literature. During the past several years I have home-schooled my daughter and a several studentsby referral.
I enjoy seeing the "Light Bulb" come on when a student grasps a concept. I tend to defer to the students learning style and teach to their need and understanding. Over the years, I have found that this a most dynamic and effective means of imparting information. In addition, the student is more apt to retain information when taught in this manner.
