I believe in a constructivist approach to education. Stusents come with prior knowledge of topics. My goal is to get those students to connect prior knowledge with new information. I also believe that there are mltiple ways that students learn. They can have multiple intelligences in several areas, such as artistic, kinesthetic, or visual and spatial. After receiving a BS in Business Administration from a liberal arts college, I worked for several years in the business world. The majority of my work experience has been in the banking and finance industry. It was through these experiences that I realized my true passion for learning could be shared through training and teaching. The past two years I have been studying to earn my teaching certification. During my course work I have had the opportunity and pleasure to observe, tutor and instruct in several classrooms in the area. Also, I spent two years coaching and motivating a high school volleyball team. I love teaching and working with people of all ages. This particular position interests me because I struggled with math through middle school and understand the frustration it can create for a student. Mathematics is now my strongest subject and I chose the profession of accounting to utilize those strengths. During my time at college, I helped other students with their studies in math and business, specifically statistics and quantitative analysis. Although this teaching experience was with college level students, I have held a summer job working with 8-12 year olds for the past four years. When I finish my Master’s Degree, I may consider teaching at an institution such as CCAC because I enjoy helping others with their education.
