Experience Summary
I have extensive experience working in small design studios, mid-size advertising agencies and large corporate environments. I was hired as a designer two months before I graduated from the Ivy School of Professional Art by one of my instructors, who owned a small design firm. I have worked as a designer for the past 35 years. While I have always loved working as a graphic designer, I also enjoyed being chosen to introducing new team members as to company procedure, familiarize them with executing brand for client advertising and instructing them in the software programs that each company used. I can honestly say, that I have been asked to do this at every job I have worked at. Along with understanding graphic design, I have an understanding of the entire process that is needed to create successful messaging that good design exhibits.
Teaching Style
When working with a student, I believe that there is never a time to doubt someone's intelligence, or to ever talk down to someone. Condescension is not the way to reach someone and build confidence. If someone is not understanding something, then it is up to the instructor to find another path to get them to the final goal of understanding. Patience is a virtue and a smile and respect can go a very long way in connecting with someone.
My Hobbies
I am first an animal lover and could not image life without my beloved basset hound, so I am interested in working with animal rescue groups. I am an avid reader of the classics (the Bronte sisters, Edith Wharton, etc.), historic novels, as well as design books of any kind. I have a passion for interior design (this is different from interior decorating). I collect vintage one/two cup teapots (solid color only) from the 1920's, 30's and 40's, of which I have close to 100. I also enjoy gardening.
