I've always been interested in foreign languages and other cultures. While living in New York City, I hosted many international visitors and always enjoyed coaching them on their English. So a couple years ago, I decided to get a certificate in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) at The New School in New York City. The program focused on practical techniques and emphasized lessons that integrate grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, reading, writing, listening, and speaking. During my time at The New School, I taught a small group of Chinese- and Spanish-speaking students for about eighteen months, and I also taught another group of Arabic-speaking students for about nine months. I began my study of American Sign Language (ASL) at the tender age of 12, then studied Latin in high school with Mrs. Ellen Conrad. When I reached college, I continued my study of ASL while tutoring friends in Latin. I have studied Arabic and Irish Gaelic at the college level, and dabbled in Spanish, Hawaiian Creole, and various African languages. In addition to learning, I love to teach. I began teaching ASL while I was still a high school student, and continue tutoring friends in ASL and Latin. As a college student, I began teaching and coaching fencing to all age groups, but specifically students in grades 6-12.
