A Little Bit About Me...

During my doctoral studies at UCSD, I began to tutor professionally as a way to earn extra income. It seemed like a logical choice for a part-time job as I had been helping friends with homework for almost as long as I could remember. Given my extensive scientific training, the vast majority of my tutoring experience has been in Science or Math. However, I would be able to tutor other subjects, such as English and Psychology as well.
As a tutor, I try to identify the learning strategies of my students and then build off of those. For example, if I notice that a student is a visual learner, then I will try to incorporate diagrams, models, and schematics that can assist the student in understanding the subject matter or solving the problem. I am a very patient person, a trait which I believe is very beneficial for a tutor to possess. I am always patient when teaching, and in doing so have succeeded in getting my point across. I like to pass on small tricks and acronyms that I have came up with for many things, some of which I have still retained to this day for my own personal use, not just for school work.
Since I am an engineering student, I have always been interested and excelled in math and science, so I have tutored many kids in all areas of science and mathematics. I have also tutored in Spanish and French. Last year, I worked with a young man who had dyslexia. I have helped kids of all ages, whether at the elementary, high school, or collegiate level.
