My comments on tutoring GED : Received High School Diploma.

I graduated High School in 2011. During my junior year of High School I started home schooling so I could take college classes. I took three classes at Skyline College, all of which were completed with a B or better by the time I was a senior in High School. Along with my college classes I babysat a five year old and tutored him three days a week. During my senior year of High School I would regularly tutor a 16 year old and a 14 year old. After I graduated High School, I attended Modesto Junior College for the 2011/2012 Fall Semester. I always say I start my tutoring with the basics. Together we will master what you already know and from there we will move on to more complex skills. For a faster response you may contact me through email at: crystal_silva11@yahoo.com

Results-driven tutor seeking to share my love of knowledge!

Laid-back, non-aggressive, and fun when possible, but with an emphasis on focus and attention to detail.
I graduated high school with a full International Baccalaureate Program Diploma, and a 4.53 weighted GPA. I then went on to receive a full ride scholarship to Santa Clara University for Computer Engineering, where I took part in the University's Honors Program. There I completed 3 years of study in computer science, classical languages, and Spanish, before deciding to change directions and gain real-world experience. After a brief leave of absence, I entered Licensing Education Courses for the field of Insurance, passed the License Exam, and went to work as the Vice President of Marketing for Financial and Insurance Services, an independent insurance brokerage in Fresno, CA. Feeling the urge to once again to change directions, I am taking took time to pursue my passion for poe ... read more

I have been teaching for twenty seven years in various grades, schools, and types of classes. I taught for 16 years in a bilingual classroom. My last 11 years of teaching have been in a traditional classroom. I have taught every grade level from 1st to 7th, and currently, I even teach an ESL class after school. My areas of expertise would be writing, English grammar, Spanish, and social sciences. I currently tutor students to prepare for their state tests in May. My Passion is to help others achieve their learning goals

In my experience I have found that it is always better to not only provide the didactic, but with it there must also be an ability for the student to relate personally. As it relates to methods of instruction, I have always utilized the three step method of: 1) See one, 2) Do one, and 3) Teach one. This is also akin to crawl, walk, and run method. There must always be a teacher student means of communication that is functional and effective.

I believe that students can reach their potential if they are given the tools that they need. My job is to be the toolbox for them. As a special education teacher, I adapt my teaching style to meet the needs of the students. I believe that a child should be given a vast amount of positive reinforcement and always be spoken to and taught with respect. I also believe children need boundaries set that will consistently be reinforced. Our job is to teach them those boundaries but to do so with compassion. It truly makes my day, when I see a student that finally "gets" what we are discussing or learning. Teaching is a great joy for me.

I strive to include various learning styles when working with children. Some students learn best by listening or writing, while others need movement or tactile experiences to help in comprehension. I believe in keeping students engaged at all times, to minimize wasted time. Every child has potential. A teacher just has to know how to reach each child, and that happens when the students builds trust with the teacher.
I have taught music in public education for the last 15 years. I have been involved in church music ministry for over 25 years, and currently am the church pianist in Stockton, Ca. I love working with children of all ages. Math is my second love and I almost majored in math instead of music. Math was always easy for me in school. Although I don't enjoy writing, I am very strong in written English and enjoy proofreading papers.
