I tutored a student for about 1 year in spelling. I helped him to understand the phonics of words and taught him how to sound the words out. His spelling was greatly improved after he had a better understanding of the phonics. I try to get my students to find the answer for themselves by asking them questions. Students need to come to an understanding of their material and that won't happen if I continually give them the answers. I'm also very patient with my students. If they don't grasp a concept or topic that we're working on, I will continue to explain it to them in different ways until it makes sense. I have been tutoring students for about 5 years. I worked for a dyslexia tutoring center, Road to Learning, located in the Chicago area that would tutor between 80 to 100 students per week. I was personally trained by Lisa Stankus who is the director of Road to Learning. I have also worked in a Middle School for 2 years to gain additional experience. Northland Learning Solutions specializes in one-on-one dyslexia tutoring, in a warm, friendly atmosphere.
