I have earned a BA in Global Studies and Maritime Affairs, which has enabled me to expand my knowledge base about international affairs and the maritime industry. This coming March I will graduate with a MS degree in Emergency Management. This degree has given me a fantastic background in understanding leadership and management techniques. Special emphasis on reading and writing. I taught in public and private schools and have tutored in my home 10 years. I recently worked with Professional Tutors of America, with junior high students in math. I enjoy working one on one with children to improve academic performance. I have a number of books collected to supplement learning. I like using at least 5 different kinds of activities per session to keep interest. I've had one formal year of education in programming at College of the Redwoods. The first semester course I took was intro to C++, and the second semester course was C++ with Data Structures. At HSU I studied extensively in the field of education; cumulating in writing and presenting lessons to students at Eureka High. Currently, I have been studying C# and writing small applications in my spare time. In addition, I have been programming a microcontroller in pBASIC via a serial cable. I would seek to emulate the university style of lecture and assigning hands on projects. I believe this is the most effective model since it provides repetition, allowing the student to better memorize the material. Furthermore, projects allow the student to be creative, and design programs in his or her own fashion.

The key to teaching any age of student is the ability of the teacher or tutor to recognize the students level of need and their adherence to a study regiment. Some students learn best in a conventional step-by-step process, while others learn better with real world applications or a "reason" for a particular concept. I am excellent at recognizing what type of curriculum a student would excel under. The only true difficulties a student can have in any subject is when they believe they are unable to learn the material.
