I attempt to meet each student at his or her own level, and seek to engage students through humor as well as through direct instruction. My teaching style varies from student to student and subject to subject, but I believe that every student can learn. I worked as in house counsel for seven and a half years in Fidelity National Financial’s Chicago claims department, handling title insurance claims generated by property in multiple states of the country. Young people learn through different ways and means. I try to discern the best method to instruct any particular student with whom I am tutoring at the time. I like to give examples of problems, and "problem solve" with the student through illustrative examples on paper or on the board. I encourage questions and feedback to ensure that the young person is indeed learning "how" to solve a problem, not simply to "get" a solution. A student's practical demonstration of problem solving is the best gauge to determine if that student is indeed learning or not. I enjoy watching children learn and grow. I believe there are different teaching techniques for each individual student. I have come to learn this because of my younger sibling who didn't fit into the mold of a typical public school student. I am a firm believer in trying new things and new approaches. As a Bowling Green State University student who has studied Communication Disorders I have come across many experiences with children. Communication Disorders not only includes speech, but language as well. I have gained knowledge about how children read and write and why some children may have problems with this.
