I love piano and schoolwork

I teach on a basic level. I like to know what the student wants to get out of a session and whether the topic is interesting. I love to help a student learn to love school and music through tutoring sessions.
I have been a math, science, history, and music tutor since high school. I conduct for a church choir and have taken piano lessons for many years. I a currently taking advanced lessons with my college professor. Being a part of many organizations in high school has made college a wonderful experience thus far. I feel each child is unique, so their learning style is unique. I especially enjoy using the explorative method of teaching where the child is encourage to explore, examine, and discover with my assistance. My experience has taught me that all children can learn, but often in different ways. Finding the mode of learning for each student is the key. I try to find different ways to present the information until the child understands. It is also important to review and practice in order to reach the learning goal. I am a patient teacher and respectful of each student.
Most of my teaching experience has been in classrooms with students from the toddler stage through 6th grade. My favorite areas to teach are phonics, reading, and elementary math. My teaching style varies depending on the age and needs of the student. When I worked with younger children, I often made up a game to help the children learn the material while having fun. Even with older children I tried to make learning interactive and suit their personality. I also varied the amount and type of aid given based on the student’s needs. While I do think learning should be suited to the individual, I do require that the student focus entirely on studying during the tutoring session.
