My name is Andrea Richards. I have been teaching in the elementary school for 27 years. I have been a certified Reading Interventionist since 2005. At that time I was trained in Reading Recovery. My discontinuation rate averages over 80%. I was also trained at The Ohio State University in how to implement Leveled Literacy Intervention developed by Fountas and Pinnell. In addition, I have received Barton Training, and I am currently working on getting my Orton Gillingham Certification to aide with helping even more severe dyslexia needs. More About This Tutor...

Most of my teaching experience has been in classrooms with students from the toddler stage through 6th grade. My favorite areas to teach are phonics, reading, and elementary math. However, in the passed five years I have tutored pre-school age through adults in many areas, and homeschooled all areas in elementary and middle school. I also taught English as a second language. I love guiding a student through some difficult or misunderstood content and getting the "ahha!" of understanding at the end.
My experience has taught me that all children can learn, but often in different ways. Finding the mode of learning for each student is the key. I try to find different ways to present the information until the child understands. It is also important to review and practice in order to reach the learning goal. I am a patient teacher and respectful of each student.
