I love teaching and strive every day to become a better teacher, as my career goal is to teach at the university level. I find teaching exciting and difficult. In my discussion sections, I adopt an attitude not of authority over students but of collaboration with students; I try to create and facilitate an environment of collective engagement with a given text or topic. I miss being able to work with students one-on-one, particularly on academic writing, though I do hold weekly office hours and frequently conference with students who are motivated to seek out extra help. I know each of my students every term by name and strive to cultivate meaningful connections with them as people, as learners like myself.
