Learning is a journey. I have a map but you have the wheels

As a lifelong learner I understand the importance of an effective teacher. I have been teaching and assisting college level classes for 2 years as a Graduate Teaching Assistant. During this time I have taught 6 classes consisting of introductory microbiology, microbial genetics and general biology. This experience has allowed me to develop my own teaching style and led to a greater understanding of both sides of the teacher-student dynamic.
I believe the best way to learn is to ask questions. The best thought process begins with asking the right questions. As a classroom teacher I quickly learned to engage each student individually. I prefer tutoring because I can tailor my instruction to a specific student. Children have different learning styles so it is my responsibility as the instructor to adapt lessons to maximize learning for each child. Ideally I am able to guide a student to realize concepts in their own terms rather then dictate facts to them.
I recently completed two years of teaching Physical Science in a secondary school in Namibia as a Peace Corps volunteer. A Little Bit About Me...

I have a PhD in Microbiology and dual majored in college to obtain a BS in both Biomedical Science and Health Chemistry. As a result, I have a wealth of knowledge in the areas of science and mathematics. I also have extensive experience writing and editing grant proposals and research papers and understand well the mechanics of the English language. A Little Bit About Me...

Although my primary academic interests are English literature and history, I have seven years of experience teaching writing and English as a Second Language. As a graduate student at CSU, I taught five sections of undergraduate introductory composition and completed an internship in pedagogical theory. I moved to Prague in 2002 and began my career as an ESL professional, teaching ESL and test preparation to groups and individuals at all levels, both in-school and in-company.
