I have taught with lecture and with physical objects that I have created. My teaching style will vary with what the student needs. Some students need a manipulative to see the concept. Others need to hear or see it in another way. Adapting my style to fit their need is one of my strong points. I have been tutoring and teaching mathematics up to and including calculus while I was in college to the present day. most students that I have tutored I find to have a minor miss-perception of what they have failed to comprehend. It truly depends on the student and the subject. I try to adapt my teaching style to what the student needs. If one approach is not working, then we can work together to find an approach that does. I believe that it is important for the student to be able to relate to the teacher and it is the teachers job to create that connection.
