I have tutored students privately in subjects ranging from languages to math since 2001. One student has continued French lessons four hours a week every summer for five years. I completed a one-year French as a foreign language course in Martinique. I have taught several French for Beginners adult classes. I substitute teach at the local schools, and cover all ages and subjects (some of which I am more qualified for than others, and in the event I am less qualified, I let the students teach me what they know).

I'm patient and listen to the student to see what they get and don't get about the premise of the lesson. Then we get to it. Careful reinforcement of the Correct method will ensure Remembrance and Results. Also, Lessons must be approached within the context of the Big Picture. Students need to realize that there are no pointless or forgettable sections. Basically, communication is key followed by practice, reinforcement, more practice. Learning can be at pace, but laziness and whining will not be tolerated.
I have a Bachelor of Art in History, predominantly American. I also pursued Engineering for my first year and plan to go back to College. Subject material can be confusing and very intimidating. I speak from experience. When I tutor students, I ask where they feel they need the most help and where they are doing well, to help them with their uncertainties and increase their confidence. Instead of just giving the students the answers, I will show them where to find the answers. Once the student works out the problem with I, I instruct the student to try a similar problem without my help, to deepen their grasp of the material, and to show them they can do it.
