As an undergraduate at UCLA, I volunteered for tutoring inner city fifth and sixth graders. I found it natural to sense their insecurity, frustration, or lack of self-esteem. My teaching style varies with the learning style of the student I am working with at any given time. I believe in positive reinforcement with facilitative rather than demeaning corrections. Teaching is what I do. I have found that I have a skill for transferring information to children without them at times even realizing it is happening. I am not a strict disciplinarian but never allowed my classroom to get out of hand even when it was filled with 40+ students. I respect children and their differences.
