A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy teaching and find it very rewarding. I believe that all children can learn and it is the teacher's role to find the learning style of his or her students and to plan lessons and activities to meet their needs. Children want to be successful in school and with my patience and dedication I strive to help each student find success.
I earned my degrees in education from Ball State University. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education with a Kindergarten Endorsement, M.A.E. degree, and a Master of Arts degree in Special Education with minors in the following: Learning Disabilities, Mildly Mentally Handicapped, Seriously Emotionally Handicapped. I have taught at the elementary level in both general education classes and special education classes and at the high school level in special education classes.

I usually employ a Socratic style of interaction, seldom answering students’ questions, but rather guiding them to the answer, or at least an answer, through strategic questions designed to clarify their thinking processes and work toward a solution to the problem at hand. Frequently, I might not know the specific answer to a question, and in such instances, the student and I will engage in an academic scavenger hunt to find it. This practice contains much value, as the student will learn the techniques and strategies by which to effectively ferret out material that may otherwise go unnoticed. I am less a teacher than I am a facilitator of learning, and I strive to create an environment in which learning is both successful and enjoyable.
