As an undergrad, I excelled in the arts, history and social science courses. However, I lacked interest in math (I didn't get it) and failed college algebra two times! My goal was to graduate college and I decided to seek help. I came across the tutoring center on campus and found a tutor that changed my perception about math! In brief, my tutor was out going, patient and tried various techniques to help me learn the material. I passed college algebra with an "A"! This has allowed me to qualify teaching at the Elem level, and also teaching English at the jr high and highschool level.I became a substitite for Gilford High right out of college. I worked as an eighth grade long term substitute for Math, Science and Social Studies for 5 months. Upon the teacher returning, I then worked as a 7th grade paraprofessional until we moved to Bakersfield, where I now have taught secod grade for the past two years at Carden School.I have worked with many different grade levels. As someone who has loved reading and books since a young age, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with my life: A career as a writer and a reading teacher. While earning my MA in English at California State University, Fresno, I spent two exciting years teaching beginning college writing.
