My comments on tutoring Basic Learning Skills : Basic learning skills can relate to many areas such as reading, writing, problem solving, speaking. I am vey experienced in identifying and addressing basic learning skill weaknesses.

Teaching reading to students of all ages is and has been my love in education. I identify student learning styles and strengths, then use strategies which best suit the student to strengthen reading weaknesses. Intervention Specialist - Tutor Grades K-12

I hold a B.S degree with Latin Honors in Special Education K-12 and have taken various courses for reading specialist. I attended Ohio State University for two years and Ohio Dominican University. I am excellent at taking in and processing information and then fluently teaching others that same information in a way they can fully understand it. Tutor for elementary kids with special education needs

I have volunteered in the Clark Shawnee School System for past 3 years tutoring/mentoring kids with learning disabilities in reading skills. Last school year I was hired as a paid tutor in the school system tutoring a Chinese child (ESL student) in grammar/vocabulary/reading/spelling. This year I will be assisting with math as well. I retired 3 years ago from a State of Ohio agency who worked primarily with folks with both physical and mental health disabilities after 30 plus years of service. Unique Tutor

I often use word games or riddles as rewards for good work. It motivates effort from my students and makes them listen more closely. With my esl students, I made sure to apply new words to their life in order to gain the most retention of the new vocabulary words. The approach I use of ask students to draw from their own lives in order to illustrate meaning and comprehension encourages a dailogue that works well with any vocabulary words for any age group.
