A Little Bit About Me...

I have been tutoring for the college I was attending(for 2.5 years) for the last 4 semesters. The assistant dean of the math department recruited me to tutor math specifically because of my ability and understanding of the subject. Learning is the basis of what we know. What we know is the basis of who we are. Who we are is the basis of the impact we will have on the world. I love helping others to understand the unknown, and to overcome what may seem to be a hinderance. I have tutored children for six years, and look forward to another six years of helping them to open their level of thinking. I have worked with special tutorial programs through the state, I have worked with daycares that provide extra assistance to children with special educational needs, and I am always available to children in the neighborhood who need a little extra guidance with their school work.

I have taught middle-school language arts and mathematics. With my degree and experience in special needs and learning differences, I served as supervisor/teacher for a special needs program called the Link Lab at Poetry Community Christian School. A Little Bit About Me...

The major benefit of a one-on-one tutoring environment is that a student can be taught in the manner which best suits their personal learning style. I believe it is imperative to identify a student's preferred learning style and to adapt my teaching accordingly. When working with a student, I prefer to allow the student to work through a problem and discover the answers themselves, while I guide and instruct them, instead of merely showing them. While grades and test scores are obviously important, it is my main goal to increase a student's confidence in a subject.
