A Little Bit About Me...

I am a 21 year-old senior attending UW-Milwaukee. I will be graduated in December 2012 with a BA in Literary and Critical Studies with a minor in Philosophy. I have not had any formal experience with tutoring but have always been someone who my friends and fellow students seek out to proof read their papers and to give suggestions or comments. Last semester I made the Dean's List here at the university and I am maintaining a 3.8 accumulative GPA.
I am a very patient and compassionate individual. I will always help a person capitalize on his or her academic strengths, while working patiently but dilligently to recognize his or her weaknesses.

Most of my primary education experience involved me in music. I played the piano for 16 years, cello for 9 and self taught the violin and some other instruments. I prefer tutoring with stringed instruments. I then transitioned to sports like tennis and soccer. In college, after changing degrees a couple times, I graduated with a BS in Biology, minored in Chemistry with a Pre-Med certificate. Currently I am working on my own to sell patents with an Israeli scientist. On the side, I study Russian and Hebrew.
I have private tutored almost all throughout college, mostly because I had many international friends in desperate need for English help. A Little Bit About Me...

I work best in one-on-one situations with students of most ages, particularly older students. I make sure that the student understands my explanations of topics, and if they do not, I make sure to rephrase coherently so that they do. I actively engage the student in their learning, encouraging them to answer their own questions rather than simply lecturing. I believe that getting the student to believe in him or herself is the key to success, and I find encouraging them to move in the right direction and correct themselves is more effective than reproaching mistakes.
