My comments on tutoring ADD/ADHD : I have worked as a "Student Advocate" as well as "Paraeducator" in Provo School District, and "Behavioral Program Implementor" for Butterfly Effects.
My job tasks were:
As Student Advocate:
-Work with at-risk elementary children, focusing on those who were diagnosed with ADD/ADHD.
-Motivate children to learn and improve their conditions.
-Meet with students one on one, in group settings, and classroom presentations on character building lessons.
-Behavioral management and discipline plans
-Keep track on truancy problems
-Conduct Suicide Prevention Groups.
As Paraeducator:
-Help elementary students from 2nd grade to 6th grade in their writing and reading skills.
-Work with students who have moderate to severe disabilities.
-Teaching functional and academic skills.
-Use appropriate techniques for student and classroom management.
-Direct small groups of students in various areas of academics.
As Behavioral Program Implementor:
-Provided behavior intervention to children with autism and other related disabilities.
-Implemented behavior reduction and skill acquisition programs as well as assisted consultants with functional behavior assessments and parental training.
-Supported the child in his/her natural environment, helping to participate in daily living and community based activities.
I have always enjoyed teaching and helping others to learn. I don't believe in "I can't do it" or "I can't learn". I believe that anyone can learn anything as long as they're willing to learn and put an effort to do so. What is different is that some people have more ability than other to learn certain tasks, but eventually, everyone can learn. It is all a matter of adapting oneself to the student's need and ability to learn.
My goal is to make the student learn what they set up their mind to learn in the first place, and help them improve their condition. It is very rewarding to see that you have made a difference in their lives.
