My comments on tutoring Elementary Reading : I hold a Master's degree in Special Education and am experienced as a K-5 special education teacher in all areas of language arts and math. I work with students with other health impairments, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and specific learning disabilities including dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia. I am certified by the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators as an Orton-Gillingham Classroom Educator. Orton-Gillingham is a multisensory literacy approach that includes explicit instruction in phonemic awareness, reading, spelling, and writing.

I have a relaxed, stress-free teaching style, while staying on task and topic. I make sure the pupils really understand the material by breaking things down to the basics, and reviewing the foundations. After reviewing and application of the concepts, I have my students switch roles and "teach" me the material. I believe if you can explain the material to someone else, you really understand it.
