A Little Bit About Me...

During my time at Hocking Technical College, I was taking alot of biology related classes such as Botany, Ohio Trees, Aquatic Ecology and many other related classes. I was a tutor for 1 year, teaching students about learining there trees by showing them out in the field and also teaching them latin names for these specific trees. In addition, I tutored students in Aquatic Ecology and used mnemonic devices to aid in memorization of these concepts. While at Appalachian State Universtiy, I would often organize study groups and review concepts regarding geography skills in lab and also in the lecture. During my undergrad I was involved with this tutoring for one full year.

A Little Bit About Me...

I will be getting my teaching certificate and degree in May 2010. I have worked with many students in grades 7-12 throughout my college experience. I am currently in my student teaching semester where I am teaching Advanced Math, Statistics, Topics in Mathematics, and three sections of Algebra 2. I have also been a Supplemental Instruction leader for Introduction to Statistics at Mount Vernon Nazarene University. I held two tutoring sessions a week to help students with the material and concepts. I have also tutored a high school student in Algebra 1 as a side job while I have been a student in college. A Little Bit About Me...

During my 35-year of teaching, I spent 30 years teaching everything from Alg. 1, Geometry, Alg. 2, Trig., Statistics. I was also a math department chair for 5+ years. In that capacity I wrote curriculum for local and county districts. I also lead my department and county in choosing texts. I worked on committees at the county level in training teachers. After my retirement, I realized that I missed teaching and working with young people and helping them prepare for ACT tests and classroom assignments. I have spent the last year tutoring at Sylvan learning centers. I absolutely love my job! However, my center is closing and I hope to move on.

I enjoy teaching adults as well as high school students. I do not have much training teaching below junior high; however, I am confident that I could successfully teach math or language. Although, I don't mind the traditional classroom setting, I am quite used to instructing on a one-to-one basis. Our GED programs are completely individualized for learners to move at their own pace, and I encourage this type of teaching style when manageable. Many of the students/adults that I have worked with have a learning disability of some sort, but I feel that I learn from each student just as much as they are learning from me. I enjoy teaching and couldn't see myself doing much else.
