I am a type of teacher who like to focus in on both what the students knows and what they don't know. After the assessment, I try to pull those two parts together so that they can effectively understand concepts in a wholistic picture. I have taught all age levels and I am very confident and competent at what I do. A Little Bit About Me...

I love working with students and getting to know them as individuals. This helps me to be able to see what type of learner each student is so that I can adapt my lessons to meet the needs of my students. I love being able to provide time within my lessons for communication and reflection. I feel that by communicating and reflecting on the material, the students are able to learn the material in a deep way. A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated with a degree in Physical Science Education, which gives me a strong background in Physical Sciences and in math. I have worked with children and youth of all age levels and nearly every ability. I ran an afterschool program for the Salvation Army, ran a boys home for troubled boys and worked in St. Paul City schools as a substitute teacher and a night teacher at an evening school. I also have worked six summers at a Salvation Army camp. Through these experiences I have worked with both gifted and special needs children and youth.

I have loved teaching and still keep in touch with many of my former students. In fact, I have taught many of their children! I seem to end up helping students with more than just their homework. I have always had a talent for understanding that not everyone "gets it the first time." I had much trouble with science myself. When I was responsible for hiring teachers, I usually wasn't a fan of those with 4.0 averages. I was afraid they wouldn't have the patience to answer the same question 10 times! I always try many methods (visual, auditory, tactile) until we find the right one for my students. I consider it my personal challenge to be able to get that "aha" out of a young person.

While attaining my genetics degree at Ohio State, I worked at the OSU Chimpanzee Center. After graduating, I started working for the Department of Agriculture in the Weights and Measures division. It was my job to try to "trick" the scales before they could become available for commercial use. I moved back home to Coshocton when I got married.
