I have taught high school for 8 yrs with Memphis City Schools. I have tutored Elementary, high and college students for 30+ years. I have 3 students who have/are attending Harvard University. Two have graduated from Harvard Univ. I tutor students at my church and I also give ACT prep instructions.
I teach based on the students learning style. I find where the students are and gently bring them to where they should be. For math problems, I usually work problems and explain each step, and then have the student attempt to work a similiar one when they feel like they understand the problems. I try to be as helpful as possible while still focusing on the goal of total understanding for the student, as well as the ability to work a similiar problem independently with confidence. For paper writing, I would have the student brainstorm some ideas, and then together we could discuss the pro's and con's of the topic and organization choice, and provide tips on how we could better the assignment. I am willing to give as much or as little help as a parent would prefer, as good grades are one goal but the students mastery of the material is the most important.

My comments on tutoring College Algebra : I excelled in my studies throughout high school and college; I was a top student in all of my math classes. Although I have not taken a designated Math in recent years, I am willing to refreshen my abilities for the sake of helping the student.

Summer Math Tutor

My teaching style of choice is Demonstrator. I want to allow children to see examples and many different ways to complete a problem. I also would make sure real life application was involved in teaching students.

I am very versatile when it comes to teaching. I am a person that understands everyone does not learn the same way or at the same pace, so therefore, I am very patient and full of many methods that will help them along their journey with MATH.
