Being a former engineering student and ultimately switching over to and graduating with a degree in English, I feel that I have a wide range of attributes and experience in coursework to provide to your company. In addition, during my sophomore year I began working with the Boys and Girls Club of Chicago where I was a mentor/tutor for a group of students at the Frazier Elementary School on the west side of Chicago. The Frazier Boys and Girls Club taught me the patience it takes when it comes to teaching and tutoring young children. This position lasted three years and I'd like to believe that through my time with these children, I instilled the importance of education not only in school work and grades, but personal knowledge and intelligence. I have both practical and conceptual understanding of mathematics as I have tutored kids and taught mathematics at a high school level. In addition, I have certifications in biology, chemistry, physics, and computer science. I like making connections among different subjects and providing practical examples as the situation warrants. I get a lot of satisfaction when students grasp a new concept. It makes my day!
My tutoring style is eclectic so I can reach each student with an unique insight that will help that student understand a concept or solve a problem. Once I get to know how a student thinks, I work with his/her strengths and try to compensate the student's weaknesses by working at his/her level and then bringing the student to a level where he/she needs to be.

Because each student has a unique personality and way he learns, I believe in making lesson plans that will draw in the different types of learners: hands on, experience, visual, and aural. When I teach individual students, I can find out what that student needs in order to learn the best, and I teach to her strengths and work through her weaknesses. All students deserve to understand what is going on in the classroom and I firmly believe in individual help. My approach also includes student interaction in which the students have a voice and opinion on class experiences. I believe that this approach helps students think outside the box and teaches them to have an opinion and to think critically.
I am a recent graduate of the University of North Texas with a degree in Music Education. While at North Texas, I taught middle and high school-aged students the art of music. During the su ... read more

If I had to pick one style it would be direct teaching. Although being a special education teacher I also use the cognitive strategy instruction. This approach is very helpful as a tool to help students develop the necessary skills to be self-regulated learners. One should continually differentiate the lesson utilizing all the modalities. When I facilitate interaction between the class it will depend on the lesson sometimes having the whole class participate is the way to go, other times it is helpful to employ small groups. I believe you have to be versatile yet consistent I feel this is important for the learning styles of the students.

I believe a great teacher needs to have proper skills and talents for teaching. I learned a lot while growing up from a great teacher; my mother. My mother was a teacher for thirty years teaching elementary grades. I learned a great teacher needs to be respectful, patient and to be able to illustrate the lesson in an easy, simple way. I try to provide simple analogies for each concept. This enables the stu ... read more

I have a firm belief in our country's educational system. I tend to view learning as a lifelong process; there is so much we can achieve, even on a daily basis. As an educator, I have a strong content area background, receiving distinguished remarks on each evaluation I've had. My experience with literature, composition, reading, analysis, and critical techniques is unparalleled. Additionally, I look at instructing as a "two-way street". I am fair whenever I need to be fair and strict on issues I need to be strict on. There is no rule-book that states learning can't be fun and exciting! I love being an English educator; I usually learn just as much from my students as they hopefully learn from me.
