I've taught basic English Composition for 30 years in a variety of settings including traditional, non-traditional, and proprietary undergraduate programs; additionally I've taught entry level graduate writing/research and served as department director/administrator in both traditional and prorietary settings. I've worked in tutoring/writing centers at various schools and individually tutored students ranging from middle school to PhD level throughout my teaching career. My experience is as broad as it is varied. When I taught at Sylvan, I taught every course they needed me to. When I taught professionally, I taught teams of scientists and then instructional designers. I'm comfortable with all ages and backgrounds.
Scaffolding and positive reinforcement describes my teaching style; combined with a healthy dose of humor and individual, associative modeling. Learning should be fun and challenging. Busy work doesn't have to take such a negative connotation.
