My comments on tutoring English ESOL : I have spent the past 11 years as a language teacher and am currently completing my practicum to earn certification from a well-respected ELL certification program at University of Missouri-Columbia

I have spent the past eleven years instructing students in the area of language--both English and Spanish. I have taught at the high school level almost exclusively, but I am flexible to work with any students levels k-12. Students would characterize me as a teacher who cares about their past, their present and their future. I provide them with the skills they need to enter into a highly competitive world.
In the classroom, I use a combination of cooperative learning, comprehensible input, teaching through music, functional grammar, teaching reading skills in the target language and scaffolding instruction to meet the needs of all my students.

I believe that all children want and try to do their best, but sometimes need an extra push. I think it is necessary to use the appropriate curriculum, but to find out what teaching method works best for each student as we all learn differently. It is also important for each child/student to have some flexibility in what they learn in order to express their individuality and own creativity.

I have accumulated 92 credit hours toward a Bachelor of Science in Education with an emphasis in Art. Currently I am involved with the Y-Read volunteer program and for the past few years have tutored one on one with adolescent children specifically in Reading and Language Arts. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style first and foremost is to not find translations. The easiest way to understand is to find the cultural equivalent. Because I have a passion for languages and teaching, patience is never a second thought. Throughout my educational career I have accumulated a variety of resources to assist in my teaching and find patterns that make it easier for the student to work with. I create homework, assignments and have fun. I am not rigid in my approach however I am fun and serious.
I decided to earn my BA in French since languages seemed like second nature to me. Additionally, I had to take Italian and I taught myself to read Greek.
