I love teaching children. I enjoy getting to know how each child thinks and works, and finding the best way to teach them in a way that is meaningful and gratifying. My approach is usually very methodical, and I believe a strong foundation allows for a deep and thorough understanding of the subject at hand. I consider my working relationship with my students to be a team effort, one that requires their input and communication as well as my own. I earned my BA in German with a minor in music. My interest in the German language began as a child when my mother took a military assignment to Germany. In addition to the three years I lived there with my family, I completed a study abroad session during college and returned two years later as a Fulbright grantee to teach English in a German school. In total I spent six years in Germany and am quite fluent in the language. As for music, I have taught private violin lessons to elementary- and middle-school students. I am currently back in the Reading area after completing two years with Teach For America on Chicago's Southside. While there, I taught 9th Grade English/Test Prep and 6th Grade writing, which I loved! Two years ago, I graduated from Barnard College, which is the undergraduate women's college of Columbia University in New York. During my time in New York, I tutored many young children in English/writing and French conversation and grammar.Because of my content area, my tutoring strengths are English, writing, test-prep and grammar work.
