I have over 5 years of experience teaching portuguese for foreigners all over the world. My goal is to teach not only the grammatically correct portuguese, but also the day- to- day portuguese, in order to enable the student to communicate with natives.The Portuguese course is extremely broad, diverse and dynamic,allowing the student to develop his/her capacity of communication, listening comprehension, grammar, as well as cultural aspects of Portuguese language.

More About This Tutor...

Most of my teaching experience is from one to one tutoring. I have tutored over 20 students and always received compliments regarding my reliability, punctuality, style and patience. I have tutored for students with ages raging from 14 to 25 years old and included algebra, geometry, calculus, physics, etc. I worked as an 8th grade math teacher for a Catholic School as well. I lectured algebra and geometry to 3 different groups of 50 to 55 students.
My one to one teaching style is tailored to adapt to the students learning style. However, my experience shows that keeping the student active during the learning process promotes a better learning. I use Microsoft Excel during my lessons. I create formulas, graphs, etc. and the Excel spreadsheet and ask the student to enter the data so that he/she can see how things change with different entries. A graduate of the University of Virginia, I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Media Studies. Shortly after finishing school, I moved to Brazil to work as a research assistant to a professor and documentary filmmaker at the Federal University of Bahia. I was also able to expand my own research on educational opportunities in marginalized communities in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. Through my research assistantships and media internships, as well as through managing my own media projects and studies, I have developed strong computing, writing and communication skills.
