Journalism is one of my top subjects!

I learned very early in my career that humor is essential to the learning process. I believe that lessons are learned much easier when they are connected to everyday life, such as current events and work or recreational pursuits. During my undergrad, I was part of the mentoring program called P.O.W.E.R. which tutored and mentored in-coming freshmen girls and boys. P.O.W.E.R. stands for Peers Offering Ways to Excellent Results. I had a group of 10 girls whom I met with weekly and tutored them in any subject they were having trouble with. Generally, I'm a constructivist, and I believe the best method of tutoring is providing a completely individuated scaffold for any student. While I was raised in old-school education, I believe that some of the newer techniques of education through hands-on, the use of digital technology, and through writing across the curriculum are effective for many students.
