A Little Bit About Me...

I have been working with a wide variety of students in the past two years from elementary to college level. I have seen and learned that each student is different and cannot work with just one style. I adapt to each student differently and we both learn how to approach problem that will make sense for the student. I love to learn and everyone learns differently. I believe that if the information is not being understood one way, then we need to find another way to instruct. Hands-on learning and learning through experience always leaves a lasting impression. Just memorizing facts, although in some cases that is necessary, it is just not fun for all students and just may not stick unless learned in a fun way. I want to make learning fun because no one should ever stop learning. There is just too much out there to sit back and let life pass you by.

I prefer one-on-one conversation in a question-and-answer format (Socratic method). However, sometimes a straightforward explanation is needed. For math tutoring, the best results come from working through problems step-by-step.
I have been teaching at the college level for 6 years, and I have 2 years of earlier experience at the middle school level as well. My BS in Electrical Engineering enables me to tutor effectively in math and science, and my PhD in Philosophy qualifies me for Science, History, and some writing help (I have published in peer-reviewed journals).
