My comments on tutoring Elementary Phonics : Individual work done with student to assess phonetics

I can teach in any style that suits the student. I am flexible with whatever excels the students learning the most.
I have taught a large array of children and adults, anywhere from a 2nd grader struggling with reading to adult Burmese refugees. I have the patience and flexibility to successfully work with anyone. I started tutoring when I was around the age of 13. I taught a young Korean girl English, where I would have to create my own lesson plans. While I attended Okemos high school, I partook in volunteering experiences that dealt with tutoring. For two years, I was placed at an elementary school where I would tutor 1st-5th graders biweekly with anything from basic math to practice with reading. I built strong connections with the children, which I could use to better their learning. At Michigan State University, I spent a semester tutoring at the Boys and Girls club of Lansin ... read more

I love children and have many years of experience!

I taught third grade, fourth grade, and first grade all adding up to 14 years total experience. I also tutored in the evenings. I taught in a high achieving elementary school and welcome all different types of learners. I am willing to tutor at my home or a nearby library. The children I have tutored in the past have shown positive progress.

A Little Help Makes All the Difference

I am a college graduate of Central Michigan University with a degree in Elementary Education, a major in science and minor in English. I have obtained 22 credits of my masters degree in Teacher Leadership for School Improvement and am 1 course away from my Reading Endorsement. I am also ESOL certified. I am a certified teacher and experienced tutor. I have experience teaching 4th and 5th grades, all subject areas, reading intervention for 2nd and 3rd grade, and reading and math tutoring experience all the way from pre-k through 9th grade. My reading graduate courses have given me great knowledge and understanding about reading difficulties, diagnoses and solutions. My years in the classroom have given me plenty of experience with various ways of teaching math “outside the box.” This year I started my own tutring company "Tutoring Your Way, LLC." I truly believe that as an educator you must establish a connection with your students. This not only builds a great relationship, but also helps to develop a real understanding of your students and develop the best way to teach them through differentiation and accomodations. I have learned over the years that you can't teach all students in the same way, and I have become very good at altering my teaching style to best fit the needs of my students.
I have had many experiences in education both during and after my college education. I have been put into many situations that have required using much of the curriculum content, classroom management, and lesson plan developing skills that I have acquired. I have a major in science, but I also have extensive mathematical skills due to the many math classes I have taken for my BS and while currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Acco ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I worked in the Math Department, as either a tutor or a Teaching Assistant, for the past three years. As a Teaching Assistant I led a 50 minute recitation of the material, graded materials, and kept records for my 30 students. As a tutor I helped MSU undergraduates learn key concepts and study for their upcoming exams. I worked in the Algebra room and the Calc I room. I helped out a little in the Calc II room, but I never had time, as a full time student myself, to review the material and refresh my memory, so I was much less helpful than I should have been.
I love teaching because I love passing on knowledge. I believe anyone can learn anything they want, it just takes us all different lengths of time and effort to achieve our educational goals. As a tutor and a TA I was always trying to rethink my presentation of the material when the students seemed confused. We all think abou ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Science from Grand Valley State University in 2008, and has equipped me with the knowledge of many applications of biological and physical sciences. I worked in a research lab in college and was responsible for training new students. In addition I acted as the supervisor of the laboratory for a group of high school interns, working to advise them on their research projects and educate them on basic laboratory protocols. After graduation, I accepted a job where I acted as a laboratory manager, directly training new staff laboratory techniques. I developed professional writing and presenting skills of data, and have had some of my research professionally published.
I enjoy interacting and teaching others through interactive discussions, presentations, and hands-on exercises. I have worked with many people from various ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I love working with students, particularly on an individual level. Classrooms can be fun, but I feel as though the greatest learning comes from personal interaction in one-on-one sessions. As such, I see teaching and learning as a relationship structured around mutual respect and positive reinforcement. I have a lot of experience trying to understand the "logic" of a student's error and helping them take the positive aspects of their work and build on them while overcoming the negative. All students are gifted; building on preexisting talents and predispositions should be the cornerstone of teaching. Consequently, I tend to guide students towards making their own discoveries and building their own conclusions. Education is and experience of growth and personal development, not a filling of mental file cabinets. Making a difference in a student’s life through education is like open ... read more

I am happily retired at a relatively young age and am seeking an outlet for my skills and abilities that can benefit others. My greatest joy is spending time with our 6 grandchildren, as I have always liked kids.

In addition, I was responsible for coordinating training programs for in plant positions like hi-lo driving and safety as well as Adult Education (Speed Reading, English as a Second Language, etc.). I held a sales position for 25 years and possess strong people skills and problem solving and conflict resolution abilities. While enrolled at Davenport University in 2008-2009, I received a 4.0 GPA that included a Training and Development course.
