I think lots of modeling and review of the concepts being taught is essential. I want the student to observe the modeling and then for me to guide them through the learning of the concepts. Students should be fully engaged in order to gain a full understanding.
I have been tutoring all subjects K-8 for over 15 years. I am a certified teacher and currently teach 6th grade. I worked at Sylvan Learning Center for over a year before becoming a private tutor. I have been a substitute teacher for the last 6 years. I have taught PreK-12th grade in all subjects. I have been tutoring kids for 2 years and have really enjoyed it. A Little Bit About Me...

I taught elementary Art, P.E., and library class. In addition, I taught a 12th grade Transitions course, for a year in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. I frequently helped kids with their homework after school, as needed. I volunteered as a 3rd grade Sunday School teacher for a year. I have a bachelor's and master's degree in Social Work.
I am a student-oriented teacher and am willing to do all I can to make learning approaches applicable to each child’s needs. As a student at Kansas State University, I have learned the importance of the pursuit of higher education. I have earned a BS in Psychology, an MS in Marriage and Family Therapy, and will pursue a PhD in Family Life Education and Consultation starting during the 2009-2010 school year. I have written a lot of essays and read numerous research papers. For over a year and a half, I have tutored students in English, psychology, mathematics and sciences.
I enjoy teaching students how they learn. It is very important that students know their learning style. My goal is to help them learn how they best retain information. I believe that if a student is able to utilize all the senses that allow them to remember the information that they have received, it will build their confidence in the classroom and as they pursue higher education.
