A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is unique to each student's indivdual needs. I take time to recognize my students learning style and provide the need materials or teaching style based their needs. I prefer tutoring to working in a classroom because I can give each student the specialized one-on-one time they need to help not only keep them on track with their school's requirements, but also introduce them to better study habits that could help them excel in the classroom when they do return to school.
During my years attending UMass Dartmouth, I recieved my Bachelor's Degree in Sociology with a minor in Business Administration. But I also gained alot of experience working with children. A Little Bit About Me...

I have a relaxed teaching style that makes my students feel comfortable and interested in learning. I believe I transfer my passion for my subject to my students. I am able to draw on my extensive work and “real-world” experience, which students seem to appreciate. I have an informal manner, yet I expect much of my students. I have been a high school teacher of Latin and ancient Greek, for three school years, and I spent an additional school year as a high school librarian and study skills course teacher. I also have a year of college Latin instruction experience, and a year as a TA for an ancient history professor. Over the years, I have had at least three permanent clients as a tutor, working with ancient Greek, Latin, and German, and I have done other ad hoc tutoring and professional translation work.

Prior to my second career in the field of service to at-risk senior citizens, I taught English for four years at Westport High School. Following the reduction in force made necessary by budgetary constraints, I taught for ten years at the Crystal Springs School in Assonet, MA as a Special Needs teacher. While rewarding, I missed the challenge of more literary pursuits and began teaching evening classes at a local communuity-based organization. My tutoring experience had its inception in that setting.
