Economics and Portuguese tutor, learn the different way!

I am currently a Master's student in Economic Theory and Policy at the Levy Economics Institute. I have several years of experience with economic theory, practice, econometrics, research and analysis and truly enjoy discussing it. I was a tutor for both economics and Portuguese (my native language) during my undergraduate years.
I like to have very hands-on tutoring sessions with a lot of discussion and where the student and I work together to solve any of the issues at hand. I often connect in-class theory to real life examples, and try to keep things fun and interesting. My approach and background in economics are unorthodox, and thus I will surely help the student see any of the "usual" topics from a new and different perspective.

A Little Bit About Me...

Because I enjoy and see the wonder in science and I like to show that to students. If they see a reason to want the knowledge, and see how it can expand their horizons, then they will be more open to learning. A common problem with individuals needing tutoring is that they sometimes do not think they have the "smarts" to learn the subject. My first objective is to show them they have the "stuff" to get it! Then I show them how it can be fun. This needs to be balanced with the practical need to get passing grades and complete the course work. My style is marked with a belief in the student and I encourage them and acknowledge their progress.

I am a very hands on, activity based teacher. I follow the rule of Explain, Example, Exercise. I make sure to have many different types of learning so that each student can be successful. Before earning a BA in Biology at Skidmore College and after graduating high school, I took three years off to play hockey. Concurrently, I enrolled in classes at Mount Wachusett Community College in Massachusetts and tutored in the math department. I tutored students in algebra, geometry, pre-calculus, and some calculus. While studying for my undergrad in economics I found a passion in helping others succeed as I was. I often held study sessions with groups ranging from 2- 10 people at least twice a week. A Little Bit About Me...

While I was an undergraduate, volunteering was very important to me. One of the places I volunteered was an after school program for children who live in Hamilton Hill. While I volunteered there I helped many of them with there homework as well as extra reading and writing to help improve those skills. I found that my psychology major as well as my education and english minors were very useful and helpful to help tutor in all subjects.
I love working with children. I was involved in girl scouts from first grade all the way to 12th grade and in those years I learned a lot of leadership skills. I am very patient and want to provide education to anyone that needs it. When I was in school I often struggled with school work, so I learned many different techniques to learn how to learn.
