SAT Tutor with Specialized Curriculum

I have been tutoring high school students for a couple years with excellent results. My method of learning to take the SATs is very unique and has led to me using this system to score in the top 0.5% of all test takers. Anyone can learn to excel on this important test but most people go about it the wrong way. I try to adapt my teaching style to the student. I keep trying different methods until we find what works best. This is probably why many of my students have told me that I am great at explaining things so they understand it. Being proficient at math is similar to being proficient at playing a musical instrument. You can’t learn to play an instrument by going to concerts and watching other people perform. Similarly, you can’t learn math by watching the teacher solve problems. I try to guide students to the correct solution and give immediate feedback while they work.

One way to inspire a student in these fields is to touch their sense of awe and amazement, another is to instill an appreciation for the usefulness and practicality of what is being taught. With either approach, it is helpful to gain an understanding of the student's interests, attitudes and learning style. Young people are looking for adults they can trust as mentors, and I find my personal interest in them and my enthusiasm for what I am teaching combine to support their learning process.
