Completing my four years at Savannah College of Art and Design, has helped me to reinsure myself that I am capable of completing all of my goals that I set for myself. The creative skills that I have had instilled in me have also been acknowledged and rewarded. I have received my Bachelor degree in Fashion as well as in Art. The most important skill I can teach someone is how. I believe in not only helping students to understand the material but instilling in them a joy of learning. I want students to understand how to get to the answers, why the answers are correct and how to do it themselves. This skill boosts self esteem and confidence. I also believe that it is very important to teach study skills and techniques that can be applied to master any subject or exam. Sometimes students get overwhelmed, but one of the most important things a student can learn is how to plan ahead and use their time efficiently. These skills can then be applied to any subject both inside and outside the classroom.

I truly believe in learning by doing. Being shown the answer never helps anyone. You must go through the process of doing to be confident in your abilities. I try to make the student feel as comfortable as possible with making mistakes. That's the whole point of studying, to improve. This requires a lot of patience and understanding of how the student views the assignment. My teaching style is tailored to the individual. The first thing I do when I'm trying to teach someone something is determine their learning style. If they don't know it I help them figure it out. I do find that most people learn best by diving in and doing it themselves first, while I serve as a "safety net". Whenever I was teaching new helmsmen or junior officers how to steer survey lines, I would direct them how to do it the first few times, and then when they felt ready to try it themselves, I stood back and let them, not stepping in until the absolute last second. Letting them make and try to correct their own mistakes seemed to be the best teaching tool I had.
