A Little Bit About Me...

I have a very enthusiastic teaching style. I try to get to know my students well and use various methods to engage them in the subject area we are studying.
I worked as a tutor in college, and I taught some groups of children Spanish and French while in college. After graduating from college, I taught for 4 years, grades 7-12. Also, I worked as a graduate assistant at Indiana State University and taught college freshmen. I homeschooled my own children for several years, and now I work as a literacy assistant in an elementary school.

Both settings of education included years of math and science, and in high school four years of writing, English, and history. After graduating with honors from Grove City College, I took a position as a writer for a large nonprofit organization in Washington, DC. While working as a professional writer, I dedicated my free time to tutoring at a center for urban kids.
Learning must be fun, especially in a tutoring context. In my previous tutoring experiences, I always attempted to turn tasks into games or opportunities for creative expression. For example, multiplication tables can become an opportunity to play a relay game. Learning different parts of speech can be made enjoyable by creating an imaginative story. My particular interest is helping children develop a passion for creative writing and reading.
