I have worked as a music teacher for 10 years, and I spent one year working as a Title I paraprofessional. As a music teacher, my focus is on music literacy and appreciation. I strongly believe that every child has the right to a quality music education. As a Title I para, I worked with individual and small groups of K-6 students in the areas of reading, writing, and math.
A wonderful characteristic of music is that learning and experiencing music addresses all three main learning styles--visual, aural, and kinesthetic. Students enjoy my class, and it is wonderful to see what they remember long after they have been in my class. I have a non-teaching BA degree in English. I spent all 4 college years working on my college newspaper, and two years after graduation working for a local newspaper. My job responsibilities included covering news and local functions, and then writing news and feature stores. I also helped proof read submitted articles for publication. I have always had above average skills in spelling and grammar. In addition, although I have no formal degree, I spent over 20 years teaching private piano lessons on a one-on-one basis. After school, I would go to each students house and work with them for approximately 30-45 minutes.
