It has been my experience that each student has his/her individuals needs and that each learns differently. Thus, I make a conscious effort to sit down privately with each of my students so that we can address his/her concerns effectively and put together a constructive plan to improve his/her skill set. As a tutor with Webster University's student literacy corps, I worked with individuals, pre-K-adult, on reading, literacy, and writing skills. I held this position for two years along with a summer position tutoring Algebra and French with HEC Upward Bound, which service at-risk youth. I found both programs extremely enjoyable and found that all of my students were eager to learn and improve their skill set.

I believe education should be student centered. Learners need to develop their ability to think logically and creatively so they may enjoy the learning process. I give immediate feedback and positive reinforcements so that students are motivated to participate actively in their education. I use a variety of activities and materials to explain content. Students possess different learning styles and achievement can be accomplished if the learner understands the material. I lead students in activities that allow them to find the meaning in what they are learning. I set high expectations for my students and give them the resources and support they need to reach those goals. This enables the students to develop a positive self-perception. In addition to currently being a substitute teacher for the Missouri State Schools teaching a variety of subjects, I have tutored elementary students in all subjects for one year. Through another employer, I worked closely with two students to improve grade performance in writing and math. Also, I have worked as a group facilitator for about six months where I taught adults basic living skills and tutored them to help them obtain a G.E.D. I work diligently to ensure that I am very versatile when tutoring as I believe students learn differently.
