A Little Bit About Me...

I understand that everyone has different learning styles and different amounts of time to absorb material. I try to teach concepts in a variety of manners to reinforce key points and I try to keep it interesting to the individual. For instance, when I taught marine biology at IUS, each student chose their own, unique organism to study and write a literature review on throughout the semester.
I have been a teaching and laboratory assistant for eight years through my undergraduate and postgraduate studies. I've focused on marine ecology, but I've also helped with field ecology, field biology, and marine biology. After finishing my PhD, I taught a marine biology course at my undergraduate university and thoroughly enjoyed the experience; however, I've decided to continue my research career in the way of a postdoctoral fellowship. My teaching experiences include college faculty member and home school teacher for my four children. They graduated from the Independent Study High School University of Nebraska, participated in Running Start and are all college graduates. I was also a 4-H leader for over twenty years and instructed many youth. As a community organizer, I developed public education and outreach programs. This involved teaching and mentoring people of all ages, pre-school through senior citizens. Currently, I am a school nurse for a middle school where I work to assess barriers to student learning.

I love to see students grasp a new concept and revisit their work with greater pride and confidence as a result. I have six children of my own and 13 grandchildren. I have always loved children and I have a special connection with kids of all ages. I am very laid back and enjoy interacting with kids.
