A licensed educator for 13 years, I have developed a deep understanding of students and what makes them motivated to learn. I appreciate the challenge of developing strategies to refocus student learning and make them more accountable and actively involved. No two students learn and develop skills in the same way and I embrace that by using tools to engage students where they are and then pushing them to discover where they can be. I have taught middle school social studies and literacy and enjoy the complexity and creativity of middle schoolers.
I am a Love and Logic teacher; choice is the biggest driving force in my classroom. I give students the power to shape their learning and success by offering them choices, and using enforceable statements. A Little Bit About Me...

I taught middle school and high school Language and Literature for two years at a private school. During that time I also tutored in the subjects of history, math, and science. I am currently working on my Masters degree in Education and have had refresher courses in the areas of study outside of my initial degree. I love working with students and have taken courses specifically in test prep.
I am an active teacher. I want students to understand the subject in the context of their own lives as opposed to just learning definitions. If they can realate the information to an actual happening, they are more likely to remember. I have always sought to lead rather than force something upon the student by rote. Most important is to present the information in a way that is both interesting and memorable. It is my experience that people remember things better when they truly understand the process, and have reason to listen to the explanation.
My experience in tutoring began in high school when I volunteered for my local library, in a program aimed towards improving students’ reading ability. Having had considerable difficulty learning to read myself, I felt it was important that I attempt to pass this on to others. When I entered Knox College I was focusing on English, and ended up helping my fellow students with writing and editing their papers.
