As a Substance Abuse Program Case Manager, I conducted psycho-educational group sessions related to addiction/recovery issues and worked in a juvenile’s detention/commitment program. In adult corrections, I facilitated Addiction Treatment Counseling and Life Skills groups. When I worked in the foster care system, I taught Independent Living Skills to youth who were transitioning out of the system. All of these positions required extensive record-keeping duties and demanded strong writing skills.
I consider myself an empathetic and patient teacher of children and young adults. My experience as a teacher is varied. My first experience working with children started in 1997 as a tutor for the College Reach-Out Program (CROP) on Santa Fe Community College's campus. I maintained that position for three years until I went into the teaching profession. The moment I entered the field of education, I began substituting.
