Basic Learning Skills is one of my top subjects! I hold daily "workshops" in my classroom helping students with study skills and help with homework or unclear assignmens.

I have a calm, loving environment in my classroom. I expect the best from my students and they never let me down. I play classical music during their work time and allow them to work in partners, groups, and individually daily. I also hold what I call "workshops" for students who need that extra help with the lesson I just taught. It seems so much nicer than to negatively call the students back to my table that "don't get it!!".
I am beginning my 14th year of teaching. I have taught from 3rd to 6th grade, with a heavy focus on Reading and Language. Learning is an awesome tool when you have the ability to understand and use it in your surroundings. This is my goal for every student. Many children struggle with classroom learning because they require a different learning method than the one being offered or more direct attention than a teacher of 20+ students can offer. As a dyslexia therapist I was instructed in a number of different approaches to teaching and how to match each one to an individual student's needs.
