A Little Bit About Me...

I like to have one on one tutoring sessions free from any distractions in order for the student to pay more attention. I try to find videos and tutorials that may better help demonstrate how to work problems on top of how I teach it myself.
I tutored college math for two years while I was attending community college. I normally helped athletes prepare for a test, help with online homework, and assess their knowledge by providing other problems for them to work out and check behind them. I also tutored man in the math section of the ASVAB back in the summer of 2012.

I have excelled in mathematics going all the way back to elementary school. Studied general mathematics in college. Have tutored at least 20 students on a variety of subjects in math, outside of school involvement. Worked in the math tutor lab at CSU during enrollment. I have tutored students in middle school and below on general subjects also (i.e science, social studies, english, etc).
I am a huge advocate of learning 'why' something happens vs 'how' it happens. In mathematics, anyone can learn a formula, an expression, or an equation if they look at it enough times, but they would not know how to apply it in real life situations. However, if a students learns the application of the formula and how it works, bigger chances they will remember it or can derive it when recalling the information. Learning the 'why' WILL lead to learning the 'how'

My parents were both educators and my daughter is a professor, so I can say in all honesty that education has been a most important aspect of my life. I have been very successful as a college instructor and a tax school teacher. I do not have any tutoring experience but with my love of education and my own work ethic I know I can be instrumental in a students academic success.
My teaching style is based on my belief that my purpose is that the student learn the material. If that means backtracking and presenting the material in a different manner or using more examples then that is what I will do. I am a people person and love to meet new people. I think this helps me in my ways of teaching math. I like to understand how the person learns. That's the beautiful thing about math there are so many ways to learn. After understanding the person it is very easy to teach them. As a college student I am still striving for my goal and dream of becoming a veterinarian. I have always been a mentor in my community and willing to help others where they need help. My favorite subjects throughout grade school include math and science, in which I have excelled in both by being placed in honor level classes throughout high school. During high school I worked as a volunteer in St. Petersburg, Florida through All Children’s Hospital. Within the Bedside Buddies Program, I was able to spend over 200 hours working with physically and mentally challenged children to maintain their grades when they were experiencing long staying in the hospital. With this experience under my belt, I pursued my degree in psychology, achieving a BS rather than a BA to exhibit my proficiency for the mathematics and sciences.
